Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KotOR) is a role-playing video game developed by BioWare and published by LucasArts. It was released for Microsoft's Xbox on July 15, 2003, for PCs running Microsoft Windows on November 19, 2003, and later for Mac OS X. KotOR is the first computer role-playing game set in the Star Wars universe. The sequel, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, was developed by Obsidian Entertainment at BioWare's suggestion as BioWare wanted to focus on their own intellectual properties. //from wikipedia

Knights of the Old Republic takes place around 4000 BBY (before the Battle of Yavin) in the Star Wars galaxy. At this point, the Jedi Order was at its height, with thousands of Jedi restoring and maintaining peace in the galaxy. However, things have taken a turn... the Republic just finished fighting a costly war against the Mandalorians on the outer rim, and now many of the key Jedi who fought in that war have turned to the dark side of the Force. Now Sith, they ruthlessly seek to eliminate the all Jedi and overthrow the Republic. You must choose whether to follow the path of a Jedi Knight, or join the Sith and seek ultimate power.
